SHE STUDIED IN THEIR room the following night, wanting to get through all her homework before Friday so she wouldn't have to take a big, heavy bag with her on the team bus. Her mom had been glad to get the text that she could pick Cara up at the college in town instead of driving out to get her, because she was still busy with work.

Cassidy arrived back a little before curfew with pink cheeks, looking ready to burst with some news. Laughing from her desk chair, Cara put her out of her misery quickly. “Spill, then.”

Cassidy did a noiseless fake scream and a little dance before she could speak.

“We went for a walk around the path, and I was cold so he put his jacket around me, and then he walked me right to the door, and he totally kissed me—” She gasped for breath after saying all that without pausing, and went back to the silent screaming in delight.

“That’s amazing,” Cara replied sincerely. “I’m happy for you.”

She was going to have to get used to having Jory around, one way or another.
